"'Tis
the Season for a Crafty Contribution: Scottsdale League for the Arts
Donates Supplies to After School Children's Program"
Scottsdale, AZ -
(December 18, 2002)- Best idea for presents at a holiday party? Follow
the lead of the Scottsdale League for the Arts who traded in routine
gift giving to collect arts and crafts for a children's after school
program. Vista del Camino, the after school program serving youths between
6 and 12 years of age, is a free service through the City of Scottsdale,
held at the Yavapai Elementary school site.
The program, which
is exceedingly under-funded to meet the needs of these children in the
south Scottsdale community, provides extremely important services. On
Thursday, December 19th from 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., the League for the
Arts will donate the art supplies to the children to be shared for what
promises to be a creative, promising future for Vista kids.
About 100 kids are registered in the program, participating in activities
planned by the children themselves in conjunction with the staff of
six teachers. The calendar includes one or two art/craft activities
every day like making reindeer candy canes and holiday ornaments as
well as recreation activities like kickball and basketball. You're sure
to see a lot of smiling kids, crafty gifts, and true demonstration of
the season of sharing at Yavapai Elementary School located at 701 N.
Miller Road, Scottsdale, (480) 423-3250.
