Top Catering Talent Prepared Savory Samples For The Tasting At This Year’s A Caterers’ Fare

(Scottsdale, AZ) – April 26, 2004 On Friday, April 16th, 2004, from 7:00-11:00 pm the 26th Annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival presented an affair to remember – A Caterers’ Fare. The stylish and sophisticated crowd enjoyed an all-inclusive evening of cuisine, cocktails, and music under the stars as Francine Reed and the Reed Family stirred things up with a live performance on the lawn of the Scottsdale Civic Center. Everyone was a VIP as the 500 guests reveled in Arizona’s fabulous spring weather and tasted culinary creations from 20 of the Valley’s top catering talents, sipped spectacular wines, cordials, beers and had access to the legendary Absolut tent.

Some of the participating caterers included Spagnola’s Catering, T.Cooks at the Royal Palms Resort and Spa, Benihana, Heidi’s Home Catering, Malee’s Thai Bistro, Village Tavern, Mi Catering, Los Olivos Mexican Restaurant, Bar Louie, Aventura – A Premier Catering Company, Garduno’s Margarita Factory AND Bethany’s Catering.

Awards were given to the caterers who had the food and display. Francine Reed announced the winners, which are as follows:

GOLD Heidi’s Home Catering – Heidi Vail
  Speared Ahi Tuna over Tahitian Rice Timbales
SILVER Benihana – Van Vuong
  Assorted Sushi
BRONZE Aventura, A Premier Catering Company – Michael Stavros
  Baja Shrimp Gazpacho and Smokey Pork Gordito
DESSERT GOLD T.Cooks at Royal Palms Hotel and Spa –
Pastry Chef Pierino Jermonti
  Caramel Cheesecake Brûlée with Seasonal Berries
and Guava Sauce

Judges included:

Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza – Chef/Owner of Barrio Café and winner of the 2004
Scottsdale Culinary Festival Hall of Fame Chef Extraordinaire Award.
Chef Gwen Ashley Walters – Award winning cookbook author.
Chef Ercolino Crugnale – Chef of Restaurant Mezcal
Chef Cathy Rosenberg – Scottsdale Culinary Institute Instructor, Restaurant Operations

The Scottsdale League for the Arts (SLA) contributes to several Valley organizations, including the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, the Arts in Education Council, and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. SLA is a non-profit volunteer organization made up of concerned and caring individuals who invest their time and effort to raise funds for the arts and art education programs.

The primary benefactors of the programs that SLA sponsors are children throughout Arizona. SLA is looking for positive and motivated people to volunteer at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. It’s a wonderful way to get involved in the community and expand your knowledge about the arts and culinary fields.
