A
NEW HOME FOR CHARITY
Friends Of COMPAS To Support Scottsdale League For The Arts
Scottsdale, Arizona
-September 19, 2002 - The "Friends" of the recently dissolved
Combined Metropolitan Phoenix Arts and Science (COMPAS) are now backing
The Scottsdale League for the Arts in its fundraising efforts.
Friends of COMPAS is most notable for organizing the annual fundraiser
Culture Shock for the past 13 years and encompassed a membership of
more than 100 young professionals who also attended monthly fundraising
events and organized restaurant openings throughout the Valley. The
support group was officially dissolved last month when its parent organization,
COMPAS, announced they would close their doors permanently after 35
years of supporting the Valley's arts and sciences community.
The Scottsdale League for the Arts board member, Michael O'Connell,
pursued the Friends of COMPAS members after learning of the parent organization's
plan to disband.
"The people involved in Friends of COMPAS are a terrific group
that any nonprofit organization would be pleased to have on board,"
said O'Connell. "So, we decided to ask the membership if they would
like a new home."
The members of Friends of COMPAS selected The Scottsdale League for
the Arts largely due to the similarity in the League's mission to that
of COMPAS itself.
The Scottsdale League for the Arts is a nonprofit volunteer organization
committed to creative fundraising for the arts and art education.
The League has been a major force in promoting art education programs
through the Scottsdale Arts in Education Councils and the Scottsdale
Cultural Council. Their primary fundraising event each year is the renowned
Scottsdale Culinary Festival, now celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The newly boosted League will hold monthly networking and social events
for its members and "Friends," held primarily at Valley restaurants
that are involved in the Culinary Festival. The League will also pursue
additional benefit events, such as new restaurant openings, as a means
to create social as well as fundraising opportunities for the League.
The League's first
joint social event will be held this Thursday at AZ Wines in Scottsdale
with the next event slated for early October.
