This year’s “Friends of James Beard” dinner will take place on Tuesday, April 10, at The Westin Kierland Resort. It has drawn six of the country’s most prestigious and influential chefs who will demonstrate their talent in a once-in-a-lifetime collaborative dinner, complete with wine pairings carefully selected to match each of the six courses. It promises to be an evening of exquisite cuisine and the company of true culinary artisans.
As a bonus, guests can become acquainted with the featured chefs at the Meet the Chefs reception at 6:00 PM, followed by a six-course dinner at 7:00 PM. 2006 Chef Demonstrations
Meet Michael Green, the famous wine consultant for Gourmet Magazine at Cooks and Corks, he will be conducting wine seminars both days.
Michael Green is Wine & Spirits Consultant to Gourmet Magazine. He has worked in the wine trade in the capacities of educator, importer, writer, consultant and retailer for the past 20 years.
Michael has been a frequent guest on Food Network’s Emeril Live and Sara Moulton’s Cooking Live, and has been featured in many national publications including The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Michael specializes in wine and food education events, wine lists and training programs, wine and food marketing, brand building, collector consulting and trade liaison support. His work with restaurants includes wine list development and staff training for clients such as Oceana and Molyvos.
He lectures on wine at cooking schools around the country, including The Culinary Institute of America and The Institute of Culinary Education. Michael contributed wine notes to Sara Moulton Cooks at Home, released in fall 2002.

Secrets of Great Grilling & Better Barbecue Time: 1:00pm Mario will add a bit of international perspective to a style of cooking usually associated with the American West.
Simple Solutions to Common Cooking Dilemmas Time: 3:00pm In this energetic, interactive session, Mario will respond to culinary questions and issues from the audience and demonstrate what can be done with basic items in your refrigerator and pantry that you may be overlooking.

Challenge to the Chefs
Part of the Great Arizona Picnic, this event features several chefs, each presented with identical "mystery baskets" of ingredients. The challenge: create an appetizer and an entrée - all within a time limit - and you get to watch every move!
